Selecting your training
Kickboxing at the BMA is a great way to keep your child fit and active and is a long term commitment to learning and improving. Each child will be encouraged to work hard and learn. At a basic level they learn press ups, sit ups and squats to increase their core strength and ability to perform the techniques. They learn how to stretch and become flexible. The warm ups are mixed with sprints and various other exercises designed to create co-ordination and again increase core strength. Core strength and co-ordination are for life and will help them no matter what they choose to take part in later in life.
The day-to-day training is based on a syllabus of techniques.
The Instructors are insured, first aid trained and CRB/DBS checked.
For a Junior to train twice a week it costs just £20 a month.

Self Defence (Ju-jitsu)
The Self Defence lessons are based on a combination of a traditional Ju-jitsu, Kickboxing and the real life security experience of the Instructors. Each lesson looks at syllabus related techniques, situation awareness and plays out scenarios. This good for fitness when linked with the Kickboxing fitness before. Ideally the training would be 7-9 pm on Wednesday and Friday to gain the most from these lessons. Read more...
Traditional Ju-jitsu is a Japanese martial art and a method of close combat for defeating an opponent through strikes, locks and throws. Ju-jitsu roughly translated means gentle art is about using the opponents momentum against themselves, using their energy. From Ju-jitsu two martial arts developed with more of a competition edge to them, these are Judo and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. Both of these are now very popular forms of martial art relating to sports with Judo being an Olympic sport.
Adult Kickboxing is for 14 years and over and has two types of training; Kickboxing fitness and Kickboxing. Kickboxing fitness is a great all over workout which can be physically and mentally demanding. It comprises of striking and kicking techniques only and is mostly based on working on pads. This is as tough as you put in so the harder you work the better the results, great fro weight loss and toning, builds confidence and a fun social lesson. There is very little contact within this lesson and no sparring.
The Kickboxing lesson follows on from this and starts to build in the partner work and higher grade techniques around movement and evading and delivering strikes and kicks. This has more contact and will include sparring. Most of the sparring is light to medium contact to help improve speed and the ability to perform the techniques such as larger combinations to head and body and spinning kicks. Heavier sparring is with full kit and headguards only.
The BMA offer private lessons in training in martial arts and fitness. One of the best ways to improve technique and fitness is to train on a one to one basis. The BMA charges £15 an hour for a private lesson which can be booked with one of the Instructors (see contact page).
What we have tried to do is make training one to one more affordable by introducing a monthly membership where one to one training is priced into your membership. This will mean an Instructor on site will spend a reasonable amount of time outside of lessons with you working on technique etc. This could be an hour an day 5 times a week if you are that committed. (see the membership costs)
